The
Interdisciplinary Approach - From Solo to Symphony
Ronald E. Goldstein,
DDS. Maurice A. Salama, DMD. David A. Garber, DMD. |
|
|
| |
This
presentation offers new guidelines to obtain the best esthetic
result, including profile consideration. The teeth, soft tissue
and patient's facial and smile silhouette form, all affect
the treatment plan. When to refer and when not to refer, from
the prospective of both the ideal and a compromised treatment
plan, as well as maximum utilization of the entire dental
team to help achieve maximum will also be covered. |

Architecture
of Smile Design

Dental
esthetics today has evolved beyond the esthetic restoration
of individual teeth to incorporate beauty in its fullest
sense. However, the making of beautiful teeth is only
the final phase in esthetic smile design. The real essence
of smile design is orchestrating labial gingival harmony
prior to the creation of the actual teeth. The common
denominator for an optimal esthetic reconstruction is
the restorative receptor site. Certain issues must be
pre-emotively addressed regardless of whether the restoration
is to be a tooth, an implant or a pontic. |

Steps to Smile Design: Lips, Teeth and Gingiva
Maurice A. Salama,
DMD, David A. Garber, DMD. Ronald E. Goldstein, DDS. |
|
|

Until recently the concept
of dental esthetics was necessarily limited to teeth alone.
The pre-existing relationship between the teeth, gingival and
the lip framework was by and large accepted, making no effort
to create harmony for beauty. The course aims to emphasize on
ten steps to develop total dento-facial harmony. |

The
issue for today's esthetic dentistry is to augment restorative
dentistry to facilitate more beautiful esthetic deavors
and improve patient's quality of life. Part and parcel
of a thorough dental evaluation today is to determine
the gingival phenotype of the individual. Thickness
of the gingival zone of attached tissue and tissue color
all play important roles in developing the long-term
health and esthetics in the dental treatment of any
kind. The exact determination of the location of the
underlying bone is a prognostic indicator of future
soft tissue levels. |

Tooth
Replacement in the Esthetic Zone
Maurice A. Salama,
DMD, David A. Garber, DMD |
|
|

Dentistry
has evolved over the past decade to involve several different
treatment modalities for the replacement of single and multiple
missing anterior teeth in adult patients. With the advent
of new technologies, techniques and materials, the ability
to replace the missing teeth with the form, function and beauty
of natural dentition is now possible. Resin bonded bridges;
porcelain fused-to-metal and all ceramic restorations as well
as implants can be offered as solutions to patients suffering
from the loss of teeth in the “esthetic Zone”. Therefore,
any restorative endeavor in this region must entail the foundation
of a beautiful soft tissue frame and the construction of harmony
of the gingival scallop between the restorations, the adjacent
dentition and the border of the lip perimeter. |
